A Sequential Process for Building a Precision Lubrication Program
There is no single area that holds both short term improvement opportunity and potential for disaster to the degree of the machine lubrication plan. It is widely known that poorly conducted lubrication practices rapidly degrade machine health. It is less well known that these same practices have a direct, and measureable influence over roughly 35% of maintenance expenditures (lubricated components, lubrication labor, overtime repairs, routine schedule repairs).
Few sites have responded to the opportunity by stepping up to reliability centered lubrication practices. The underlying reasons may be many, but at the bottom of the thought process it seems that management holds little confidence in the likelihood of success. Lack of confidence follows lack of knowledge.
A multi-step process has been defined that, if followed, will enable a successful implementation of an operation specific reliability centric lubrication plan. This session will outline the step-by-step process that the manager can follow to deliver a successful end result. The specific tools that will be discussed include: The site assessment; The Machine Criticality Assessment; Methods for Making the Best Fit Lubricant Selection; Contamination Control Targeting; Lubricant Sampling, Test Slates and Alarm Sets. |
